Celebrating Laos’ traditional Bunpimay New Year

On April 8, at Thai Nguyen University of Education under Thai Nguyen University, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Vietnam–Laos Friendship Association held the program “Celebrating Laos’ Traditional Bunpimay New Year 2569 (according to the Buddhist calendar)”.

Delegates take part in the traditional wrist-tying ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Duong Van Tien, Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Organization Commission and Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Vietnam–Laos Friendship Association, extended New Year greetings to Lao students studying in the province. He also acknowledged the efforts of local universities to create favorable conditions for international students in their studies and daily lives. Thai Nguyen Province identifies education and training as a key sector, contributing to the strengthening of sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Within the program, representatives from agencies and sponsors presented gifts to Lao students. The event also introduced the cultural values of Bunpimay and featured traditional rituals such as wrist-tying, water splashing, and blessings for peace and good fortune.
